This model died of an apparently self-administered overdose of sleeping pills in Salt Lake City. He was know to have suffered from bouts of depression for years. It is reported he had been diagnosed with AHDH, but it is possible this was the manic phase of bipolar disorder.

The generally accepted story from those who knew him as an adult was that he had an unhappy childhood with an abusive father who eventually abandoned the family and a religiously-obsessed mother (or perhaps sister or both), and he eventually fled to the West on his own. At least one childhood friend casts some doubt on this version, but it appears indisputable that by the time he was an adult there were irreconcilable differences with his family which on the family's part persisted even after his death.
